AWPA e-Newsletter: November 2023
Fall 2023 Standards Activity
The deadline for proposals for the Fall 2023 cycle was July 5, 2023 and the deadline for comments on proposals was August 29, 2023. During the AWPA Fall Technical Committee Meetings which took place September 17-20, 2023 in Denver, Colorado, all proposals under consideration were authorized for letter ballot. Letter ballots were issued to each Technical Committee with proposals on October 11, 2023 using the Standards Development Platform (member login required). Ballots for all committees closed on November 10, 2023 with negative votes received on 7 out of 43 proposed ballot items. Negative votes with comments related to the proposal are subject to the Negative Resolution process and Recirculation Ballots (as required) in November and December. The AWPA Executive Committee will perform a procedural and legal review thereafter, taking final action to ratify proposals at their January 17, 2024 meeting.
AWPA Membership Renewals
The 2024 AWPA membership renewal period is now open. On October 17, 2023, Membership Renewal Notices were sent to all current members via email.
2024 Regular membership dues are $310, but if you renew your membership by January 15, 2024, an early Renewal Discount of $50 will be applied at checkout. You may log into the AWPA Member Portal to renew online. Once you're logged in to your personal (not company) profile, you will see a bell with a red circle near the top right corner. Move your mouse over this icon and click the Renew Membership option to start the renewal process. If you prefer to renew by fax or mail, please let us know and we will be glad to send you a printable invoice.
If you're not currently an AWPA member, please consider applying for membership. For more information visit the "Why should I join AWPA?" page on our website.
Standard Reference Materials
Completed by Technical Committee P-5 in October 2023, sets of copper treated wood Standard Reference Materials are now available for purchase in the AWPA web store. Each set contains 12 levels of copper treatment ranging from 0.000% to 1.423% copper by weight and are intended for use in the calibration of XRF instruments. Initially, purchase quantities are limited to one set per person to allow each laboratory to have a set as soon as possible. After demand for these SRMs are determined, the quantity restrictions will be lifted. The cost is $300 for non-members, or $150 for AWPA members (who must log in to purchase at the member price).
2023 AWPA Book of Standards
Have you updated your copies of the AWPA Book of Standards?
As a non-profit standards development organization, the proceeds from Book of Standards sales provide much-needed funding for our standards development process. Every treating plant, laboratory, specifier, and inspector should have a current edition on-hand, so please be sure to purchase updated copies each year to help AWPA cover the cost of standards development. If you don’t have the 2023 edition, your standards are already outdated! This edition is available in two versions:
A 688-page printed book which may be purchased online at the AWPA Store, or by mail or fax. Click here to download a printable order form.
A searchable online version which requires a paid subscription for access. Single-user and multi-user subscriptions are available for purchase through the AWPA store subscription page. After purchase, standards may be accessed online through the AWPA Standards Library.
2024 Sponsorship Enrollment
In addition to membership dues and publication sales, AWPA relies heavily upon voluntary contributions from organizations that support AWPA's objects and purposes. Through our Organizational Sponsorship Program, AWPA recognizes its sponsors at meetings, on the website, in publications, and in other printed materials. If your organization is an AWPA Sponsor in 2023, your organization's sponsorship contact person will have already received a renewal notice by email. If your organization did not receive a renewal notice, please let us know and we will send you one. Sponsorships may also be purchased in the AWPA web store. If you are not currently a sponsor and you're able to support AWPA financially, please visit the "become a sponsor" web page.
