2018 AWPA Technical Committee Meetings

September 9-13, 2018 at the Marriott Copley Place in Boston, Massachusetts

Boston is ... a city of "firsts". The first U.S. chocolate factory was founded in 1765 in Boston. Opened in 1784, the Bell In Hand was the first public house in the U.S. with notable patrons such as Paul Revere, Daniel Webster, and William McKinley. Today it plays host to Boston's "up-and-comers." In 1875, Louis Prang published the first American Christmas card from his shop in Boston. The first subway tunnel in North America opened in 1897 in Boston. Percy Spencer, a self-taught scientist who worked in Boston, discovered microwave technology during World War II that gave the Allies a critical edge in radar detection (and led to a microwave oven in every kitchen in America). In 2006, Grace VanDerweken was the recipient of another first: an in-utero cardiac stent successfully implanted at Children's Hospital in Boston.

This fall may be your first time to experience this historic U.S. city or you may have the opportunity to accomplish your own "first" in Boston. Either way, we look forward to seeing you as we meet for the AWPA Technical Committee Meetings in September.

For more information on all there is to see and do in Boston, please visit the website of the Greater Boston Convention and Visitor's Bureau.

Note: The deadline for all standardization proposals (new standards, revisions to or reaffirmation of existing standards, or withdrawal of standards) is 75 days prior to the commencement of the meetings. For the 2018 Standardization Cycle, the deadline for all proposals is Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at 11:59 pm CDT (US). Comments or suggested modifications of proposals shall be sent to the proponent of the proposal as soon as possible after proposals are posted to the appropriate committee pages. Please remember: "All written materials to be distributed to Technical Committee members before or during the meeting and/or any visual presentations to be made at the meeting shall be submitted to AWPA, the proponent, and the Technical Committee members at least 20 days prior to the commencement of the meetings" (TCR 8.7).

Hotel Reservations
The meetings will take place at the Boston Marriott Copley Place at 110 Huntington Avenue in the Back Bay area of Boston. The location of the hotel is ideal for the 2018 Technical Committee Meetings due to its close proximity to many restaurants, attractions, and nightlife activities. The hotel is about five miles from Boston International Airport. You can get there by taxi, rideshare, or public transportation. Please note that if you drive to the hotel, parking is $60 per night. The deadline for hotel reservations at the group rate has passed, but the hotel does have a limited number of rooms available at their full rates for several nights - no additional rooms can be added to the room block.

Meeting Registration
Registration is open to any person who wishes to attend the meetings and abide by the AWPA Technical Committee Regulations. AWPA members, however, may register at deeply discounted rates. If you are a non-member and wish to join AWPA so that you may take advantage of the member rate, please click here for more information on applying for AWPA membership.

Registration entitles one to attend all committee meetings, task group meetings, and the evening receptions. (Your spouse and/or guests must register at the special spouse/guest rate to attend the receptions.) Meals and lodging are not included. Please note that registering for the meeting does not reserve a room for you at the hotel. You must make your hotel reservations individually.

Registration Fees are as follows:

Early Registration (ends July 31): $295 (members), $395 (non-members)
Pre-Registration (August 1-21): $375 (members), $475 (non-members)
On-site Registration (September 9-13): $425 (members), $525 (non-members)
Spouse/Guest Registration (ends August 21): $50
Please note that no refunds will be issued for cancellations.
(non-member rates are indeed higher than member rates...if you're not a member, please consider applying for AWPA membership - if approved, you will qualify for the member rate)

Final Meeting Schedule
NOTE: Meetings will NOT begin prior to their posted time - you must be present at roll call for each committee you're a member of in order for your vote(s) to be considered.
