2011 AWPA Technical Committee Meetings
September 11-15, 2011 at the Hilton Anchorage Hotel in Anchorage, Alaska USA

Anchorage is a unique, year-round destination with once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Plan your trip today at the Anchorage Convention & Visitors Bureau website.
Note: Due to recent Technical Committee Regulation revisions, the deadline for proposals for new standards or changes to existing standards is now 60 days prior to the commencement of the meetings. For the Fall 2011 Standardization Cycle, the deadline for all proposals was Thursday, 14 July 2011. Comments or suggested modifications of proposals shall be sent to the proponent of the proposal as soon as possible. Any presentations or written materials to be discussed at the meetings shall be distributed to the proponent, the Technical Committee, and AWPA at least 20 days prior to the commencement of the meetings, which was Tuesday, 23 August 2011.
Hotel Reservations
The meetings will take place at the Hilton Anchorage Hotel at 500 West Third Avenue in downtown Anchorage. The group rate for the meeting is $129 per night (single/double) for a standard guestroom. Other room types are available at discounted rates for meeting attendees. State and Federal government rates may be available to those who qualify. Each person is responsible for making his or her own hotel reservations. The cut-off date for hotel reservations was Wednesday, 10 August 2011. Please note that AWPA receives discounts and complimentary meeting room space if our attendees are staying at the host hotel, enabling AWPA to keep its registration fees at relatively low rates. For this reason, we encourage you to stay at the Hilton Anchorage Hotel.
Meeting Registration
Registration is open to any person who wishes to attend the meetings. AWPA members, however, may register at deeply discounted rates. If you are a non-member and wish to join AWPA so that you may take advantage of the member rate.
Registration entitles one to attend all technical committee meetings and the nightly AWPA hospitality suite. Meals and lodging are not included. Please note that registering for the meeting does not reserve a room for you at the hotel. You must make your hotel reservations individually.
Registration Fees are as follows:
Early Registration (by July 31): $155 (members), $250 (non-members)
Pre-Registration (August 1-26): $180 (members), $275 (non-members)
On-site Registration (September 11-15): $205 (members), $300 (non-members)
Please note that no refunds will be issued for cancellations.
(non-member rates are significantly higher than member rates...please consider joining AWPA to register for the lower rate if not a member)
Local and Regional Activities
Many activities await those who wish to venture outside the walls of the meeting room. If you plan to go hunting or fishing, many lodges are already filling up and hunting guides may be difficult to come by. If you wish, you might contact guides we know, such as Ralph Meloon at Kenai River Suites, or Rocky McElveen at Alaskan Adventures. They might be completely booked, but they can probably steer you in the direction of reputable lodges or guides. For hunting, bear is your best bet, and for fishing, the time is right for rainbow trout and silver (coho) salmon. If you plan to hunt or fish, plan your trip now!
Besides hunting or fishing, there is so much more to do, such as:
- Taking a glacier day-cruise
- Sightseeing by train
- Driving up to Denali National Park
And so much more!
