Getting to Fort Lauderdale
Fort Lauderdale is served by the Fort Lauderdale International
Airport (FLL), which offers hundreds of commercial flights per day on all major
airlines from 55 non-stop destinations. Make your reservations
early to get the best fares, although our experience has been that
the lowest fares tend to be available between 21 and 28 days prior
to your expected travel date. The airport is located 6 miles
southwest of the hotel (about a 15-minute ride in a taxi). Rental
cars and public transportation are also available at the airport.
For those of you driving to Fort Lauderdale, you can get there via
I-75 or I-95.
Hotel Reservations
The meeting will take place at the Marriott
Harbor Beach Resort, located at 3030 Holiday Drive, right on the
Atlantic Ocean. This year’s meeting promises something for everyone. The
group rate for the meeting is $199 single/double city view room
with a balcony. Other room types
and plans may be available at other rates.
We are beyond the cut-off date for hotel reservations, but rooms
may still be available at the group rate.

You may also make reservations by telephone by calling
(U.S. or Canada)
1-888-236-2427 (for
international telephone numbers, click here.) Be sure to tell the reservations agent that
you are attending the American Wood Protection Association
meeting.
Spouse/Guest Program
On Monday, participants will be whisked away to an undisclosed
location for an "Iron Chef" style cooking competition, with
assistance from South Florida's most talented chefs. The
group will be divided into teams and will compete for the title of
AWPA's top chef! You'll eat what you cook, so bring your
culinary "A
game". On Tuesday, take a leisurely land 'n' sea tour of
Fort Lauderdale, the Venice of America. See the homes of the
rich and famous by boat, then see everything else Fort Lauderdale
has to offer by private coach. We've made sure that you'll
have plenty of time on your own to relax at the beach, go
shopping, indulge in a spa treatment, or enjoy the beachfront
atmosphere.
The Hacker's Classic - our 2011 Golf Event
The Jacaranda
Golf Club West Course in Plantation, Florida has been chosen
to host the AWPA 2011 Hackers Classic Golf Tournament on Sunday,
May 15, 2011. We selected Jacaranda because of its new Tif-Dwarf
luxurious putting surfaces, tightly manicured collection areas,
plush emerald green fairways and bunkering designed to entice the
risk-reward golfer. The Club recently invested $10 million in
creating a “living works of landscape art” theme while retaining a
championship caliber. The course is a home for the Nationwide
Qualifying Tour for professional golfers, yet is exceptionally
kind to lady golfers. The Hackers Classic Tournament will follow
a scramble format, with prizes abound.
Pickler's Prance 5K Fun Run/Walk
The 2011 Pickler’s Prance 5K Fun Run/Walk will take
participants on a tour of beautiful Fort Lauderdale and the
beachfront walk. The event will begin on the morning of Sunday,
May 15. There is no charge for the event, but you must register to participate.
Suppliers Showcase
The Suppliers Showcase is a great way to make potential
customers aware of your products and services at a very reasonable
price. The Suppliers Showcase is normally held in
conjunction with coffee breaks for a more comfortable, inviting
interaction with potential sales contacts. We intentionally
limit the number of spaces to maximize your opportunities to meet
the people who need your products.
Current Suppliers Include:
Ametek Process Instruments
Applied Rigaku Technologies
Eco Chemical, Inc
Forest2Market
IWT
OMI Industries
Oxford
Instruments
Wood Care Systems
WoodWorks
